This is a beautifully carved, shaped and perfectly balance Kuba backrest. There are thick encrustation layers on the surface of the wood underneath. The geometric cut outs are circular and rectangular. The backrest is supported by two wooden feet that exten outwards at the back providing an angle comfort for the man leaning on it. The back rest can also be used like a stool and sat on. There are detailed incision motifs all over the front surface of the wood.
Late 19th Century.
