Necklace
Necklace. Pokot. Turkana. Kenya. No 110. XI.C.9. Original list: "Pokot. Necklace. Beads, vegetable fiber, leather, elephant ivory. Elder, chief". Rigid necklace, circular in shape, made from a folded wooden branch and characterized on the surface by several alternating sections of small black, red and white glass beads, sometimes orange and green. The whole is covered with a greasy coating of dark patina. The necklace also has a small rectangular fetish in spiked elephant ivory. A perforation in the ivory is used to attach it to the necklace, via a vegetable cord. See "Young Turkana girls in skin clothes and their typical necklaces" in Staff Of Consolata Fathers.
