Arrow. Kamba. Kenya. No 39. XI.J.2. Original list: "Kamba. Arrow. Iron, wood, leather, poison. Man, warrior". Barbed arrow, extremely sharp, poisoned, stuck in a wooden pole and protected by a delicately sewn leather case, crowned with a pom pom in ostrich feathers. The handle is wrapped in unidentified brown material and then has a twisted beige leather band. It also shows red and green paint marks, down. For elephant hunting? "Kamba detachable arrow head with iron tip which was usually poisoned and wrapped in a strip of hide to keep it moist (...). Musi arrows are delicately flighted with feathers applied to the shaft using an adhesive containing latex which is derived from the Sap of a fig tree or mumo. Sometimes, a section of shaft immediateelly above the flights is painted in red with pattern of lines and dots, posibly also to denote the archer's clan or age set affiliation "(Ref. missing).
