Gourds. Maasai. Rendille. Kenya. No 88. XIV.EK.2. Set of three calabash gourds with thin leather straps and decorated with aluminum pearls, small multicolored glass pearls, small shell discs (ostrich egg, Snail shell) Or cowrie shells. The caps are bordered by an ornamental, serrated braiding, made from vegetable fiber. The two small side gourds have chiseled patterns. The largest has several traces of native restoration. These gourds were probably used to contain hot blood (function to be verified).
